Something Strange Is Coming: A First Look at Fall Fragrances 2026

Posted by on

FALL IS GETTING INTERESTING.

I’m currently developing The Fumery’s Fall/Halloween collection.

Earlier this year, I asked what Fumery fans wanted to see. The same answers kept emerging: old books. Dark incense. Ritual smoke. Strange fruit.

Good. I can work with that.

The collection’s current anchor is called Grimoire, my long-overdue attempt at the scent of an ancient, mysterious tome. I’ve avoided making a book fragrance for years because most “old library” scents smell more like expensive furniture than pages. If I’m finally doing this, it has to be convincing, pleasurable, and worthy of the name.

Elsewhere on the workbench:

A ritual fragrance built around pomegranate, patchouli, and Nag Champa; dark, red, resinous, and already smelling dangerously promising.

A possible clove-cigarette fragrance. Clove and tobacco are both notoriously difficult materials for me, and I've flirted with this concept off and on for years. This year, I intend to stick the landing. We'll see.

A bonfire fragrance that will only be released if I can make it more interesting than “burning European street sweepings". I plan to lean into the origins of "bonfire": bone fire. Bone Fire & Fumery? Current experiments involve tart fruit, violet leaves, smoke, incense, and other things that don't suck.

And then there’s Blacklight.

It fluoresces, literally and figuratively. I’m exploring neon fruit, fizzy textures, warm electronics, patent leather, and the possibility of giving the fragrance a physical response under UV light, provided I can do so safely.

Not every experiment will necessarily survive. Names, notes, and even the final lineup may change as development continues. That is the point of showing you the workbench instead of pretending everything sprang fully formed from a cauldron.

But the direction is clear:

Old magic. Artificial light. Dark ritual smoke. Fruit, ripe and purple. A tome of forbidden secrets.

Fall is coming to The Fumery.
