Aqua Mellis

Aqua Mellis by Strange FIre & Fumery is a faithful recreation of the "honey water" formula found in The Complete Course of Chemistry by George Wilson (1691).

Please note that I have spared no effort or expense in the sourcing and production of ingredients. All extractions and infusions have been made from scratch here in the Fumery using fresh and authentic reagents in order to create as true a reproduction as is possible.

The exceptions are where ambergris is called for, I use an animal-free absolute reconstruction and where "China musk" is called for, I use an animal-free house musk absolute.

Beginning with a base of St-Rémy XO brandy, which has aromatic notes of caramelized apple and delicate floral undertones, I infuse virgin clover honey, coriander, cloves, and nutmeg. To this, I add extractions of Sumatran benzoin (Styrax paralleoneurus), Turkish storax (Liquidambar orientalis), and a maceration of Papua New Guinea Tahitensis vanilla beans. 

Once this has processed, I add homemade infusions of damask rose and orange blossoms, and finally the ambergris and musk.

I have added only one ingredient not included in the original formula: A naturally derived fixative to help with scent throw and duration that does not alter the original fragrance.
